The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 fits twenty-six 3.5-inch drives into a 2U rackmount chassis for workloads that prioritise capacity over raw compute density. Dual Xeon Platinum 8160 processors provide forty-eight cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo for parallel throughput. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4-2666 ECC memory across sixteen slots supports data-integrity requirements. The PERC HBA330 controller presents the drives to the host without RAID abstraction.

Platinum redundant power and thermal design

Two hot-swap 1100 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver full redundancy for continuous operation. The 2U form factor channels airflow across the dense drive bay layout and dual-socket processor tray under typical data-centre inlet temperatures. Redundant cooling modules maintain component thermals during sustained 7.2 K rpm SAS drive activity. Power draw scales with the twenty-six installed drives and dual 24-core CPUs under load.

iDRAC 9 Enterprise and OCP networking included

Integrated iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables out-of-band lifecycle management, remote console and firmware orchestration without an operating system. A Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25 Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card adds high-speed fabric connectivity for distributed storage clusters. The onboard dual-port 1 GbE LOM handles management traffic separately. Front bezel and ready rails are not included in the shipment.
