The Dell PowerEdge R750 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5317 processors running at 3.0 GHz with twelve cores each. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 2933 MHz registered ECC memory across twenty-four 32 GB modules. The system includes a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache and battery backup.

Upgrade from single-socket or older Xeon

This configuration doubles the processor count compared with single-socket servers and moves from previous-generation Xeon Scalable CPUs to third-generation architecture with higher core counts and faster memory speeds. The jump is worthwhile when workloads such as virtualization, databases or analytics demand more simultaneous threads and larger memory capacity than a single processor can provide.

PCIe Gen4 bandwidth and 2.5-inch drive bays

The platform uses PCIe Gen4 slots that provide double the bandwidth of the previous generation for add-in cards and NVMe drives. Storage is limited to twenty-four 2.5-inch SAS bays populated with 600 GB 10 K drives; 3.5-inch drives are not supported in this chassis.
