The Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server populated with four Intel Xeon E7-8867 v4 processors, each running at 2.40 GHz with 16 cores. It ships with 1.5 TB of DDR4 memory across 48 DIMM slots and 24 SATA SSDs of 960 GB each. The system targets organisations running large in-memory databases, virtualisation clusters or ERP workloads that demand high core counts and memory capacity in a single chassis.

Memory ceiling and storage interface limits

The platform supports up to 12 TB of DDR4 across 96 slots, though only 48 are filled in this configuration. The PERC H330 controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity and handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50. Network I/O uses a quad-port daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. The chassis accepts up to 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drives plus additional NVMe bays, but no NVMe devices are installed here.

Tool-less rails and remote management simplify

Ready Rails allow the 4U unit to be mounted without tools, and the front bezel snaps on after racking. iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives full out-of-band control for firmware updates, power cycling and console access before the operating system loads. Four 1100 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy; losing one supply reduces headroom but keeps the server running. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than 24 front drives should look elsewhere.
