Enterprise compute density

The Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server equipped with four Intel Xeon E7-8891 v4 processors, each running at 2.8 GHz with ten cores. It ships with 1.5 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across forty-eight 32 GB modules. The system targets organisations that need maximum core count and memory capacity in a single chassis for workloads such as in-memory databases, large-scale virtualisation, and ERP platforms.

Storage and I/O limits

Internal capacity maxes out at twenty-four 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drives, served by a PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50. The board provides ninety-six DIMM slots and a 12 TB memory ceiling, so the installed 1.5 TB leaves room for expansion. Network connectivity uses a quad-port daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. Management relies on iDRAC 8 Enterprise for remote administration.

Four-socket ceiling

The platform supports exactly four processors and cannot accept a fifth, so the current configuration already reaches the socket maximum. Buyers who need more than forty cores or 12 TB of RAM must look beyond this chassis. The fixed 4U height and proprietary rail kit also rule out deployments that require a smaller form factor or tool-less mounting in non-Dell racks.
