Dual 16-core Xeon 5U server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 arrives as a 5U rack system with two Intel Xeon Gold 5218 processors running at 2.3 GHz and boosting to 3.9 GHz. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory are installed across four slots. Four 960 GB SATA solid-state drives connect through a Dell PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller. Dual 750 watt platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power.

Check memory slots and drive bays

Sixteen DDR4 DIMM slots are available in total, so twelve remain open for expansion up to the 1 TB maximum. The chassis holds sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays, of which twelve are still free for additional SAS, SATA or SSD storage. Two processors are already installed and the board supports no more than two. Integrated dual-port gigabit ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express remote management are present on the motherboard.

Hot-swap bays and redundant power

Sixteen front-accessible 2.5-inch bays allow drive changes without shutting down the system. Two 750 watt platinum power supplies slide in from the rear and can be swapped while the server runs. The PERC HBA330 controller handles SAS and SATA devices through internal connectors. A front bezel and ready rails are not included, so plan for rack mounting hardware separately.
