Dual 14-core Xeon 5U server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors, each running 14 cores at 2.2 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across eight 32 GB modules. A PERC HBA330 controller manages four 960 GB SATA SSDs installed in the 16-bay 2.5-inch hot-swap chassis. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power, and iDRAC 9 Express handles remote management.

Virtualisation hosts and database nodes

This configuration suits organisations building virtualisation clusters, database servers or private-cloud nodes that need high core counts and redundant power in a 5U form factor. The HBA330 operates in pass-through mode, so environments requiring hardware RAID with cache protection should look at a PERC RAID controller instead. Buyers who need more than 1 TB of memory or more than two sockets will need a different platform. The tower-to-rack conversion kit and front bezel are not included.

1 TB maximum memory capacity

The system board provides 16 DDR4 slots and supports up to 1 TB of registered ECC memory, which determines how far the installed 256 GB can be expanded. All four memory channels per processor are populated with the current 8 x 32 GB configuration, so any upgrade requires replacing modules rather than adding to empty slots. The LGA 3647 socket limits the server to the Intel Xeon Scalable family already installed.
