Capacity and interface

This 12TB SAS 12Gb/s hard drive is built for Dell PowerEdge 14 and 15 Generation servers and Dell Tower 15 Generation servers. It suits administrators who need high-capacity bulk storage inside compatible 3.5-inch bays. Buyers who need a different interface or a smaller form factor should look elsewhere.

Upgrade path and fit

The drive replaces lower-capacity SAS drives in the listed R240 through R940xa, R250 through R7525, and T150 through T550 models. The jump is worth it when existing arrays hit space limits and the chassis accepts 3.5-inch SAS devices. Systems without SAS backplanes or with only 2.5-inch bays cannot use this kit.

Sustained workload behaviour

Spinning at 7200 RPM, the drive delivers consistent throughput for sequential workloads such as backup, archiving and video surveillance recording. Random I/O performance follows typical mechanical limits, so databases with heavy random access may benefit from a different storage tier. The SAS 12Gb/s link keeps the pipe full during long write streams.
