2U Rack Server for Data-Centre Workloads

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack-mount server system built for enterprise data-centre environments. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Two 1 TB 7.2 K SATA drives and a B140i software RAID controller provide baseline redundant storage. Redundant hot-swap 500 W power supplies support continuous operation.

Upgrade Path from Limited CPU

The chassis accepts up to two processors for a maximum of 36 total cores across the E5-2600 v3 and v4 families. Memory capacity scales from the installed 16 GB to 3 TB using the 24 DIMM slots, with 12 slots wired to each CPU socket. The eight SFF drive bays can be expanded to 16 or 24 bays, and an NVMe option is available for bay 2. This jump is worth it when workloads demand more threads, larger memory footprints or faster flash tiers than the base configuration delivers.

Build Integration: Power, Cooling and Expansion

Dual 500 W redundant power supplies require matching PDU circuits and adequate rack airflow for 2U density. The B140i controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 on SATA media only; SAS or NVMe arrays need a dedicated controller card. Matrox G200eH2 graphics handle basic console output without occupying a PCIe slot. Buyers who need hardware RAID, GPU compute or more than eight SFF bays must add the appropriate controllers and backplane kits, which are not included.
