96GB DDR4 capacity and 8-bay storage headroom

Installed memory sits at the single-processor maximum of 96GB across 12 populated DIMM slots, leaving 12 slots unavailable until a second CPU is added. The H240ar controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across eight 2.5-inch SAS bays. Two 146GB 15K 6Gbps SAS drives are included, offering fast latency for operating system or log volumes but limited raw capacity for large datasets.

SAS 12Gbps interface and single-CPU constraints

The H240ar delivers 12Gbps SAS and 6Gbps SATA connectivity, capping drive throughput at the controller level rather than the backplane. With one processor installed, only 12 of the 24 DIMM slots and half the potential PCIe lanes are active, restricting memory expansion to 96GB and limiting additional controller or networking cards. Builders needing more than eight drive bays or 3TB total memory must add the second processor and optional bay kits, which are not included.
