Compact E-Ink for IoT prototypes

This 1.54 inch tri-colour E-Ink module shows red, black and white at 200 by 200 resolution. It targets makers building low-power IoT edge devices that need a persistent display without constant refresh cycles. The embedded controller handles driving logic over a standard SPI link. No backlight means the last image remains visible after power is removed.

Embedded controller and voltage translator

The onboard controller removes the need for external waveform generation, simplifying firmware on Raspberry Pi, STM32, Nucleo or Jetson Nano boards. An integrated voltage translator allows direct connection to both 3.3 V and 5 V microcontrollers without level-shifting hardware. Ultra-low power draw means energy is only consumed during screen updates, extending battery life in remote sensors.

SPI wiring and refresh timing

Connection uses a standard four-wire SPI bus plus control lines, so pin count stays modest for small MCUs. The main integration task is matching the display’s refresh sequence and timing constraints in software libraries. Partial updates are not supported on this panel, so full-screen redraws cause a visible flash each time. Ensure your MCU can supply the required 3.3 V logic levels.
