This Intel Z270 motherboard supports 6th and 7th Generation Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs along with Pentium and Celeron models for the LGA 1151 socket. It provides four 288-pin DDR4 slots running in dual-channel mode with a maximum capacity of 64 GB. The board includes two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, four PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, six SATA 6 Gb/s ports and one M.2 Key M slot for PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA storage. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC892 codec with 7.1 channels and networking uses an Intel I219-V 1 Gbps LAN controller.
Ideal for 6th or 7th Gen builds, not for newer CPUs
Builders assembling a system around a 6th or 7th Generation Intel processor will find the supported CPU list and DDR4 memory speeds up to 3866 MHz (OC) a direct match. The same socket is not compatible with 8th Generation or later Intel CPUs, so anyone planning a Coffee Lake or newer upgrade should choose a different platform.
Single M.2 Key M slot for PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA SSDs
One M.2 Key M slot accepts 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 length drives and operates at PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA 6 Gb/s speeds. Intel Optane Memory is supported on this slot. Installing a SATA M.2 SSD disables the onboard SATA1 port, so storage planning must account for that trade-off.
