LM337 adjustable regulator module

The XR-103 is a compact DC power supply board built around the LM337 linear regulator chip. It delivers positive and negative adjustable voltage output for analog circuits, operational amplifiers and small electronic equipment. Electronic hobbyists, students and audio experimenters use it as an auxiliary module for lab work and DIY projects.

Linear regulation limits efficiency

Because the LM337 operates as a linear regulator, the voltage difference between input and output is converted into heat. Continuous adjustment via the onboard potentiometer is convenient, but high current draw at large voltage drops will raise the module temperature quickly. The built-in overcurrent protection reduces the risk of damage from short circuits, yet it does not remove the thermal constraints inherent to linear designs.

Positive and negative dual-rail output decides

The defining feature is the ability to provide both positive and negative regulated rails from a single board. If a project requires a split supply for op-amps or analog signal processing, this module fits. If only a single positive rail is needed, or if the load demands high current at low dropout, a different topology would be more appropriate.
