High-density 36-bay storage server

The Supermicro SYS-6048R-E1CR36N is a 4U rackmount system built for capacity-first deployments. Dual Xeon E5-2695 v4 processors provide 36 total cores at 2.1 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo for parallel workloads. 512 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory supports large working sets. The LSI MegaRAID 9361-8i controller manages the 36 hot-swap 3.5" drive bays.

36 drive bays with hardware RAID headroom

Thirty-six 3.5" SATA/SAS trays deliver massive raw capacity for archival, backup or media repositories. The 9361-8i eight-port 12 Gb/s RAID controller with 1 GB cached battery-backed memory sustains RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 across the array. Eight native SAS lanes limit simultaneous device throughput, so very wide striping or heavy random I/O on all 36 bays will saturate the controller before the drives.

Twelve-gigabit SAS and ten-gigabit Ethernet ceilings

The SAS 12 Gb/s interface caps per-lane bandwidth, and the eight-port HBA cannot address all 36 bays concurrently without expander overhead. Quad 10GBase-T ports from the Intel X540 controller peak at 10 Gb/s per link, bounding network ingest to roughly 40 Gb/s aggregate. IPMI 2.0 provides dedicated out-of-band management over a single RJ45 link.
