This USB 3.0 Type-C adapter connects 2.5in and 3.5in SATA or IDE hard drives and 5.25in optical drives to a modern computer. It includes a dual-head IDE connector for 40-pin and 44-pin devices plus a SATA II connector. The kit ships with a UL-listed power supply for 3.5in drives.

Plug-and-play with a required power step

The adapter works without drivers on Windows XP through 10, Mac OS 9 and 10, and Linux, and supports hot-swapping. An on-off switch protects the connected drive during attachment. For 3.5in IDE drives the 4-pin power cable must be connected or the drive will not spin up.

USB 3.0 bandwidth and UASP acceleration

Data transfers reach 5 Gbps and the device falls back to USB 2.0 and 1.1 when needed. UASP support cuts processor overhead by 40 percent and raises throughput 70 percent over standard USB 3.0 bulk endpoints. The practical ceiling remains the 5 Gbps USB 3.0 link, so drive performance above that speed cannot be realised.
