Five-bay SATA enclosure for DIY storage builders

This aluminium enclosure holds five 2.5 or 3.5 inch SATA drives, each up to 18 TB, for a combined 90 TB of external capacity. A single USB 3.0 Type-B link connects the array to a PC without any RAID logic inside the box. An 80 mm RGB fan sits between translucent side panels to move air across all bays during long sessions.

Replaces smaller single-bay docks when capacity

Moving from a one- or two-bay dock to this five-bay unit lets you consolidate multiple drives under one cable and one power supply rated for 150 W continuous and 280 W peak. The jump is worth it when you need simultaneous access to several large volumes, such as a game library and media archives, without juggling multiple enclosures.

Limited by the single USB 3.0 5 Gbps uplink

All five drives share one 5 Gbps pipe, so sustained throughput drops when several drives are active at once. The SATA interface on each bay cannot exceed the host link, and no hardware RAID or port multiplier aggregation is present to combine bandwidth. Builders who need parallel high-speed streams should consider a multi-lane host connection instead.
