Dense blade compute for virtualization and HPC

The PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade that fits PowerEdge MX and M1000e chassis. Two Xeon Platinum 8260 processors give 24 cores each at 2.4 GHz with 3.9 GHz turbo, delivering 56 cores total per server. Installed memory is 32 GB DDR4 across 16 slots with a 2 TB ceiling. This configuration targets dense virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads.

Storage and network add density

The PERC H330 controller manages two 1.92 TB SATA SSDs with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 options. A Broadcom 57810S-K daughter card adds dual-port 10 Gb networking without consuming a PCIe slot. The Matrox G200 GPU provides basic 8 MB video output for console access. No operating system is included, so licensing and imaging remain the buyer's responsibility.

Chassis-dependent installation

Mounting requires a compatible MX or M1000e enclosure; front bezel and ready rails are not supplied. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote power, console and firmware management over a dedicated network port. Common issues include forgetting to populate all 16 DIMM slots for balanced memory channels and overlooking the need for chassis-level power and cooling capacity.
