This new Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 5218 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo. The pair delivers 32 physical cores for multi-threaded workloads such as virtualisation, database hosting and software-defined storage. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across 16 slots.

H730P storage controller limits

The Dell PERC H730P controller provides 2 GB cache and 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity with battery-backed write cache. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. The chassis offers eight 2.5-inch hot-swap trays today; the platform can accept up to sixteen bays with additional hardware. Network connectivity is two integrated 1 GbE ports.

Memory and power headroom

Installed memory sits at 32 GB from four 8 GB modules, leaving twelve empty slots to reach the 1 TB maximum. Dual 750 W platinum hot-swap power supplies give redundant power for full configurations. iDRAC 9 Express handles remote management. The server includes no drives, front bezel or rack rails.
