M.2 M-Key NVMe to PCIe x1 Adapter

This vertical adapter lets a desktop PC use a standard M.2 M-Key NVMe SSD in any PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot. The card itself is a simple transfer board with no additional components included. It targets builders who need to add NVMe storage when M.2 sockets are unavailable or occupied. Only PCIe-based M-Key drives are supported; SATA B-Key SSDs will not work.

Capacity and headroom: 2230 2242 2260 2280

The adapter accepts M.2 modules in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths, covering the common drive sizes on the market. Throughput is limited to PCIe 1x electrical speed regardless of the physical slot used, so sequential transfer rates will be far below the drive's native capability. The board provides a functional connection but cannot deliver full NVMe performance.

Build quality and day-to-day connectors

A vertical mounting orientation keeps the SSD upright, which can help in tight chassis layouts where horizontal clearance is limited. The package includes two M2 screws with nuts and a screwdriver for securing the drive to the adapter. No active cooling or extra circuitry is present, so the drive relies entirely on case airflow for thermal management.
