This aluminum enclosure accepts one M.2 NVMe or SATA SSD in 2242, 2260 or 2280 form factors. A tool-free slider makes drive swaps take seconds. It connects via USB 3.1 Type-C and includes a Type-A cable for older ports. The RTL9210B chipset handles both NVMe and SATA protocols without drivers on Windows, Mac OS or Linux.

USB 3.1 Gen 2 limits NVMe to 10 Gbps

Real-world NVMe throughput reaches 900 MB/s read and 600 MB/s write only when the host port is USB 3.1 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 3. On slower USB 3.1 Gen 1 or USB 3.0 ports the same NVMe drive will run at the lower bus speed. SATA drives are capped at the 6 Gbps SATA link regardless of the USB port generation.

Overheating protection forces read-only

During sustained large transfers the enclosure monitors SSD temperature. If the drive overheats the firmware automatically switches to read-only mode, throttles transfer speed or pauses the operation until the SSD cools. This protects the drive but interrupts long write workloads. Buyers who need uninterrupted sustained writes should consider active-cooling alternatives.
