The Black Box LMC401A converts a 10/100/1000 Mbps copper link to a 100 Mbps multimode fiber connection using an ST duplex port. Weighing 2.5 ounces and roughly the length of a house key, it fits in a pocket or laptop case for field deployments. It draws power from a USB port, so no external adapter is required. The RJ-45 port autonegotiates speed, duplex and crossover automatically.

The fiber side is fixed at 100 Mbps, so the converter cannot pass gigabit traffic across the optical segment. It handles 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps on copper but caps throughput at the fiber line rate.
