The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack server fitted with one Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 memory populating all twelve DIMM slots and two 300 GB 15K SAS drives on a PERC H330 controller. Redundant 750 W hot-swap power supplies and a DVD-ROM drive complete the base configuration.

Upgrade Path and Capacity Limits

The system board supports a second processor, raising the core count to twenty and the maximum memory capacity to 384 GB across the same twelve slots. Eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays allow storage expansion up to 80 TB using SAS or SATA drives, while the H330 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Buyers who need more than eight drive bays or a higher single-thread frequency will need a different platform.

PCIe Gen 3 Constraints and Remote Management

Five PCIe slots provide three Gen 3 and two Gen 2 lanes for add-in cards such as 10 GbE or GPU accelerators. Network connectivity is limited to the four 1 GbE ports on the daughter card. The integrated iDRAC8 Express handles remote console and lifecycle management, with Enterprise features and vFlash media available as upgrades. Video output relies on the Matrox G200eR2 with 8 MB cache, which is sufficient for installation and text-mode administration only.
