Dual Xeon Platinum 8160 48-Core Server

This new Dell PowerEdge R640 rackmount server delivers 48 cores across two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors running at 2.10GHz. It is built for business workloads such as virtualization, databases, file storage, backups and application hosting. The system ships with 768GB of DDR4 memory and four new 2TB SSDs managed by an H740P storage controller.

Ten 2.5-inch Bays and H740P Controller

The chassis provides ten 2.5-inch drive bays, with four already populated by the included SSDs, leaving six bays free for additional storage expansion. The integrated H740P RAID controller simplifies array setup and ongoing management without requiring a separate add-in card. Integrated graphics handle basic display output, so no discrete GPU is needed for initial configuration or headless operation.

768GB DDR4 Expandable to 3TB

Installed memory of 768GB DDR4 supports multiple virtual machines, data-heavy applications and concurrent services with ample headroom. The platform can scale to a maximum of 3TB across both sockets, allowing future growth without replacing the server. Buyers who need more than ten drive bays or a higher core count per socket will need a different chassis or processor generation.
