Dual 14-Core Gold 6132 Server

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 14 cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory in four 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. Eight 960 GB SAS SSDs are installed behind an H730P RAID controller. The system targets virtualization clusters, database workloads and high-density compute farms that need strong per-core performance in a compact chassis.

Verify that your rack can accommodate a 2U unit and that the cabinet power distribution can supply dual 1100 W redundant supplies. The motherboard offers up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots for add-in cards such as GPUs, additional NICs or storage controllers. Onboard networking includes an Intel X550 dual-port 10 Gb RJ45 and dual-port 1 Gb RJ45 interface. Remote management is provided by iDRAC9 Enterprise, so confirm your management network is ready for out-of-band access.

Redundant Cooling Enterprise Noise

Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies share the load, reducing per-unit stress and keeping fan speeds moderate under typical enterprise workloads. The 2U form factor uses multiple hot-swap fans that ramp based on inlet temperature and CPU utilisation. Acoustic output is characteristic of a data-centre rack server and is not suited for quiet office environments. Power draw will scale with CPU load, memory population and the number of active PCIe devices.
