Four-socket Xeon compute

The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server populated with four Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors running at 2.6 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. Sixteen cores per socket deliver 64 total cores for heavily threaded workloads such as virtualisation, databases and analytics. It ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules.

Memory and storage expansion

Forty-eight DIMM slots support up to 6 TB of DDR4, leaving forty slots open for future growth. The PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages eight 600 GB 10K SAS drives in the front 2.5-inch bays and can also address SATA media. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are available along with pass-through mode for direct device access.

Remote management and networking

iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides out-of-band monitoring, remote console and automated deployment without an operating system. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for high-speed fabric attachment.
