The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 occupies 2U of rack space and ships with a single Xeon E5-2609 v3 processor running at 1.9 GHz. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 memory fill a portion of the 24 available DIMM slots, while two 1 TB SAS drives connect through a Smart Array P440 controller with 4 GB FBWC. Redundant 500 W hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running during a module failure.

Sustained load behaviour with FBWC cache

Under continuous write pressure the 4 GB flash-backed write cache on the P440 absorbs bursts and flushes data to the 7.2 K SAS spindles without losing acknowledged writes. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are all supported, allowing the array to rebuild while the server stays online. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics core handles remote console output without taxing the main processor.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that your rack provides 2U clearance and that the power distribution units can supply two 500 W feeds with the correct connectors. The chassis holds up to 16 SFF bays, so confirm the remaining bay count matches any expansion plan. Memory upgrades must use DDR4 ECC registered modules; the installed configuration already reaches the 64 GB per-processor ceiling, so a second processor would be required to add more capacity.
