Metal Case P579 for Raspberry Pi 5

The MCDODO P579 is a metal enclosure built for the Raspberry Pi 5 single-board computer. It accepts the board together with a top-mounted PCIe to M.2 NVMe HAT such as the X1001, X1004, X1003, X1015 or X1000. The case also fits the official Raspberry Pi 5 Active Cooler models H505 or H509. All primary ports and the microSD slot remain accessible while the board is installed.

Upgrade from plastic shells or bare-board setups

The P579 replaces lightweight plastic cases or open-air mounting when a builder needs rigid protection and a unified stack for the Pi 5 plus an NVMe HAT and active cooler. The case height was revised from 35.8 mm to 40.8 mm in the March 2024 update to P579-V2, V3 and V4, so the taller revision is required whenever the combined board stack exceeds the original clearance. Buyers using only the Pi 5 without a HAT or cooler do not need the extra height.

Sustained load behaviour with active cooling

With the supported active cooler installed, the metal chassis acts as a heat spreader for the Pi 5 SoC during prolonged workloads. The enclosure keeps the PCIe to M.2 NVMe HAT and cooler mechanically aligned, preventing thermal throttling that can occur when a bare board or flexing plastic case lets the cooler lose contact. The package includes M2.5 spacers, copper nuts, screws and rubber pads; the Pi 5, HAT, SSD, cooler and power supply are not included.
