Intel X520-DA1 10Gb NIC
This single-port SFP+ network adapter uses the Intel 82599ES controller and connects through a PCI Express 2.0 x8 slot. It provides a 10 Gb Ethernet link for servers or workstations that need faster throughput than standard gigabit ports. Both full-height and low-profile brackets are included for different chassis types.
Connectivity and Build
The card accepts SFP+ direct-attach cables, transceiver modules or active optical cables, so the physical medium can be chosen per link. A PCIe 2.0 x8 interface supplies up to 5.0 GT/s per lane for the 10 Gb data rate. Driver support covers Windows Server 2003 through 2012 R2, Windows 7 to 10, Linux kernels 2.6 and 3.x, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and 11, FreeBSD 9 and VMware ESX/ESXi.
Interface Limits
The PCI Express 2.0 x8 bus caps theoretical bandwidth near the 10 Gb line rate, leaving little headroom for overhead or future speed upgrades. Only one SFP+ port is present, so a second 10 Gb link requires an additional card. Older operating systems such as Windows Server 2003 or Vista need specific service packs that may no longer receive security updates.

Pytania dotyczące tego produktu
What bandwidth does the PCI Express 2.0 x8 interface provide for this X520-DA1 card?
The PCI Express 2.0 x8 interface runs at 5.0 G T/s per lane, giving ample headroom for the single 10 Gb SFP+ port to operate at full line rate.
Which brackets are included so the adapter fits my chassis?
Both a low-profile bracket and a full-height bracket are supplied in the box, so the card can be mounted in either slim or standard-height cases.
What driver step is often missed when installing this 82599ES-based NIC under Linux?
After inserting the card, load the ixgbe kernel module (included in stable kernels 2.6 and 3.x) and verify the link with ethtool; skipping the module load leaves the port invisible to the OS.
