The Samsung 9100 PRO 4TB is an M.2 2280 internal solid-state drive that uses a PCI-Express 5.0 x4 interface and the NVMe 2.0 protocol. It is built with Samsung V-NAND TLC (V8) memory and an in-house controller paired with a 4GB LPDDR4X cache. The drive targets consumers who need high throughput for AI computing, gaming and heavy-duty workstation workloads.
Moving from a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD to this PCIe 5.0 model adds sequential read speeds up to 14800 MBps and sequential write speeds up to 13400 MBps. Random performance reaches 2200000 IOPS read and 2600000 IOPS write. The jump is worth it when workloads saturate the older bus, such as large dataset training, 4K or 8K video editing, or games that stream assets directly from storage.
Intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 provides a 964GB write buffer that absorbs bursts before folding back to native TLC speeds. The controller manages power with a 5.7mW device sleep state and dynamic thermal throttling to maintain performance without a heatsink. Encryption support includes Class 0 AES 256, TCG Opal 2.0 and IEEE 1667 eDrive. Rated endurance is 2400 TBW.
