High-density blade server for virtualisation and HPC

The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade designed for modern data centres. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6154 processors, each running at 3.0 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo and 18 cores. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory are installed across 16 slots, supporting up to 1.5 TB total capacity. The platform targets virtualisation, private cloud and high-performance computing workloads.

Dual 10 Gb networking and PERC H330 storage control

A Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb blade network daughter card provides high-throughput connectivity. The PERC H330 controller manages two 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive bays with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 support. Graphics are handled by a Matrox G200 chip with 8 MB video memory. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote management and automation to reduce operational overhead.

Ready for MX or M1000e chassis integration

The blade includes two 2.5-inch SAS/SATA caddies and the 57810S-K network card for immediate deployment. No operating system, front bezel or ready rails are supplied, so administrators must provide those separately. The half-height form factor fits PowerEdge MX and M1000e enclosures, allowing flexible scaling as infrastructure grows. Buyers who need an operating system pre-installed or a full-height blade with more drive bays should look elsewhere.
