Dual Xeon 16-core server for virtualisation

The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack system built around two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors, each running at 2.10 GHz with 16 cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. The platform targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, VDI, databases or HPC data nodes. Buyers who need more than 1.5 TB of memory or more than two sockets should consider a larger chassis.

PERC H730 RAID with eight 2.5-inch bays

Storage is handled by a Dell PERC H730 1 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through at 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA speeds. The front panel provides eight 2.5-inch hot-swap trays; no drives are included. Network connectivity comes from an Intel X520/I350 daughter card delivering two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. The board offers 24 DDR4 slots and maxes out at 1.5 TB, so configurations beyond that limit are not possible.

Tool-less rails and iDRAC 8 Enterprise remote

Ready Rails allow tool-less installation in standard four-post racks, and the front bezel snaps on without screws. Two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy. iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives full out-of-band control over a dedicated network port. First-time installers sometimes forget to seat the RAID controller battery or to license iDRAC features before deployment.
