USB 3.0 to SATA adapter for 2.5 inch drives

This iDsonix cable connects a standard 2.5 inch SATA hard drive or solid-state drive to a USB 3.0 port on a computer. It is suited for users who need quick external access to a bare drive for backup or data migration. No driver installation is required; the adapter works immediately on connection. The one metre length gives flexible placement on a desk.

USB 3.0 interface practical limits

The adapter uses a USB 3.0 connection with a maximum transfer rate of 5 Gbps and is backward compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 ports. Actual throughput will be lower than the theoretical peak and varies with the host controller and drive performance. The cable draws power from the USB port, so the connected drive must operate within the port's available current. It does not support 3.5 inch drives or drives requiring external power.

2.5 inch SATA drive capacity and headroom

The converter handles any 2.5 inch SATA III, II or I hard drive or SSD within the USB port's power budget. It comfortably serves typical laptop drives used for file backup or system cloning. Drives with higher power draw may not spin up reliably or may cause the USB port to disconnect. The adapter is not designed for 3.5 inch desktop drives or for RAID enclosures that need supplemental power.
