24-core Xeon 6 for dual-socket servers

The Intel Xeon 6 6520P delivers 24 cores and 48 threads at a 2.4 GHz base frequency, reaching 4.0 GHz max turbo and 3.4 GHz all-core turbo. A 144 MB L3 cache and DDR5-6400 memory controller support up to 4 TB of memory. The FCLGA 4710 socket and 2S scalability target dense dual-socket platforms.

Upgrade from lower-core-count Xeons

Moving from processors with fewer than 24 cores or without AMX support gains parallel throughput for virtualisation, database and HPC workloads. The 3 nm manufacturing and 210 W TDP raise performance per watt, but the jump is only worth it when software scales across 48 threads and can use the wider AVX-512 and AMX instruction sets.

PCIe 5.0 and UPI limits

The chip exposes 88 lanes of PCIe 5.0 and four UPI links at 24 GT/s, capping I/O expansion and inter-socket bandwidth to those totals. Memory tops out at DDR5-6400 speeds and 4 TB capacity per socket. Cooling is not included, so a solution rated for 210 W is required. Single-socket boards cannot use the 2S scaling paths.
