Compact 1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R630 fits dual Xeon E5-2609 V3 processors and 64 GB of DDR4 memory into a single rack unit. Ten 2.5-inch hot-plug bays connect to a PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Redundant 750 W power supplies and a quad-port 1 GbE daughter card come standard.

Upgrade from single-socket or smaller chassis

Moving from a 1-socket tower or a 2U box with fewer drive bays adds a second CPU, doubles memory channels and provides ten front-accessible bays without extra rack space. The jump is worthwhile when workloads need more threads, larger memory capacity or local storage density in a fixed 1U slot.

Slide-in rails and cable-free drive install

The server mounts on included rails and drives snap into hot-plug carriers without tools or cables. iDRAC8 Express gives remote console and power control before the OS loads. Common pitfalls: forgetting that the 10-bay chassis excludes an optical drive, and ordering 3.5-inch drives that will not fit the 2.5-inch sleds.
