Purpose-Built Firewall Platform

This BFKK mini PC arrives with an Intel N100 processor, sixteen gigabytes of DDR5 memory and a 512-gigabyte M.2 PCIe 3.0 drive. Four Intel I226-V 2.5-gigabit Ethernet ports give it the throughput needed for a dedicated router, firewall or virtualisation host. The fanless chassis runs silently in a rack, on a shelf or behind a monitor. Pre-installed pfSense Plus 23.0x lets administrators start configuring rules immediately.

2.5-Gigabit Ethernet Reality

Each I226-V port tops out at two and a half gigabits per second, so aggregate throughput depends on the switch and cabling you provide. Driver maturity varies across BSD and Linux distributions; the supplier notes that pfSense 23.01, OPNsense 22.1 and current Proxmox or ESXi releases have working support. Older installer images may require a kernel update before all four interfaces appear. HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 are present for console access, not for driving workloads.

Upgrade Path From Software-Only Routers

The appliance replaces a repurposed desktop or single-NIC box that cannot isolate WAN, LAN, DMZ and management traffic on separate physical ports. AES-NI acceleration in the N100 makes VPN and IDS/IPS workloads practical at line rate. Buyers who need more than four 2.5-gigabit links, ten-gigabit uplinks or higher single-thread performance for heavy proxy caching should look at larger platforms. The single DDR5 slot accepts up to thirty-two gigabytes if memory pressure grows.
