The PowerEdge R430 packs dual Xeon E5-2630v3 eight-core processors running at 2.4 GHz into a single rack unit, delivering 16 physical cores and 32 threads with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. Eight hot-plug 2.5-inch 300 GB 15K SAS drives and a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 provide high-speed local storage, while a redundant 550 W power supply and iDRAC8 remote management keep the platform serviceable in dense data-centre rows.

Fits memory-bound workloads, not storage-heavy ones

This server suits virtualization hosts, database nodes or HPC clusters that need many cores and fast spindle drives in minimal rack space. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of RAM, more than eight drive bays, additional PCIe 3.0 slots beyond the two provided, or 10 GbE connectivity should evaluate other chassis. The single DVD-ROM and Matrox G200 graphics are adequate for installation and basic console access only.

16 GB installed memory is the ceiling

Although the C610 chipset and 12 DIMM slots support up to 384 GB, this unit ships with 16 GB and the supplier lists the maximum installable capacity as 16 GB, so the system cannot be expanded beyond its current configuration without a different motherboard revision.
