1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor at 2.3GHz with 16GB of DDR4 memory in a 1U chassis. It ships with three 300GB 15K 2.5-inch SAS drives on a PERC H330 controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The system includes a DVD-ROM drive, four 1GbE ports, two PCIe 3.0 slots and iDRAC8 remote management.

SAS drive bays and memory ceiling

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives up to a combined 16TB raw capacity. The installed H330 controller operates at 12Gbps but the supplied drives run at 6Gbps. Memory uses twelve DDR4 DIMM slots with a factory ceiling of 384GB when both processor sockets are populated; the current single-CPU configuration limits usable slots to six.

Verify rack depth and power redundancy

Confirm your rack can accommodate the 26.7-inch depth and that the single 550W redundant supply matches your PDU connectors. The server weighs 43 lbs, so ensure rails and shelf rating are adequate. No operating system is included, so plan for separate licence installation. A second processor is required to activate the remaining six DIMM slots.
