The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Gold 6148 processor with 20 cores at 2.4 GHz. It suits virtualisation hosts, database nodes and compute clusters that need strong multi-thread performance in a compact form factor. The included iDRAC9 Enterprise enables full remote lifecycle management.

Memory and Storage Headroom

The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 across four 16 GB modules running at 2666 MT/s, leaving ample DIMM slots for expansion. Two 300 GB 10K SAS drives sit behind an H730P RAID controller, while the chassis provides eight 2.5-inch bays for additional capacity. Storage grows until the bay limit is reached.

Build Integration

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots accommodate extra network cards, GPU accelerators or storage controllers. An Intel X550 NDC delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible networking. Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies keep the platform running during a unit failure, and rails plus bezel are included for rack mounting.
