The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors running at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores each. Eight-bay SAS storage with hardware RAID

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays host 600 GB 10K SAS drives connected to a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache and battery backup. The controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode, freeing the CPUs from parity calculations. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links for flexible fabric connectivity. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides out-of-band management without consuming host resources.

Dual hot-swap 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundancy and high-efficiency conversion under typical enterprise loads. The 2U chassis uses forced-air cooling tuned for the installed processor and memory configuration.
