Blade density and dual-CPU capacity

The HPE BL460c G10 is a half-height blade server fitted with two Xeon Gold 6148 processors running at 2.4 GHz. Each CPU provides 10 cores and 27.5 MB of cache for a total of 20 cores in a single slot. The system ships with 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory, reaching the maximum supported capacity. Two 4 TB SATA 2.5-inch hard drives are installed behind the Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 controller.

SATA throughput and two-drive limit

Storage connects through a SATA interface on the integrated Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 controller, which caps sequential throughput to the SATA 6 Gb/s line rate. The blade chassis accommodates only two 2.5-inch drives, so total raw capacity is fixed at 8 TB unless drives are replaced with higher-density SATA models. The FLEXFABRIC 20 GB 2-port 650FLB adapter handles network traffic, but storage bandwidth remains bound by the SATA link and the two-bay physical constraint.

Blade-slot insertion and firmware alignment

Installation consists of sliding the blade into a compatible c-Class enclosure bay and securing the latch; no cable routing inside the blade is required. The most common issue is a firmware mismatch between the blade iLO Advanced, the Smart Array controller and the enclosure OA, which can prevent the server from posting. All units ship with BIOS, iLO and controller firmware updated to the latest stable versions to reduce that risk. Remote management via iLO Advanced allows headless configuration once the blade is powered.
