Interface Throughput and Expansion Constraints

All eight onboard ports negotiate at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps, so aggregate throughput is bounded by Gigabit Ethernet line rates. Uplink capacity is not fixed; a separate network module must be installed in the single expansion bay to provide fibre or higher-speed copper uplinks. The management plane uses a dedicated RJ-45 management port and a RJ-45 console port for out-of-band access. Environments that require redundant power supplies or built-in 10 GbE uplinks cannot be served by this chassis.

Deciding Specification: Expansion Module Bay

The presence of one empty expansion module bay is the single detail that determines whether this appliance fits a given deployment. Without a compatible module the unit has no uplink path beyond the eight Gigabit ports, which limits WAN connectivity to copper speeds. The bay accepts SonicWall network modules sold separately, so the buyer must source the correct module for their ISP handoff or core switch link. If a dedicated uplink slot is not required, a fixed-port firewall may be simpler.
