The Dell PowerEdge R440 fits a dual-processor configuration into a single rack unit, making it suitable for organisations that need to maximise compute density. Two Intel Xeon Silver 4114 processors supply 10 cores each at 2.2 GHz with a 3.0 GHz turbo frequency. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory and four 4 TB 7.2K SATA drives are installed, driven by a PERC HBA330 controller. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC9 Express remote management complete the baseline platform.

Redundant 550 W platinum power supplies handle

Hot-swap redundant 550 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver power to both CPUs, memory, storage and the HBA330 controller while maintaining N+1 resilience. The 1U chassis uses internal airflow paths designed for front-to-rear cooling under typical rack inlet temperatures. Fan speed scales with component load, so acoustic output rises during sustained heavy utilisation but remains within expectations for a 1U enterprise server. Power draw will vary with actual workload, CPU turbo activity and drive count.

Four 3.5-inch drive bays

The front panel provides four 3.5-inch bays already populated with 4 TB SATA drives; the HBA330 supports additional SAS or SATA devices if bays are repopulated. Two CPU sockets (LGA 3647) are both occupied, leaving no room for a third processor. Sixteen DDR4 slots hold 16 GB today and can scale toward the 1 TB platform maximum. Standard PCIe slots are available for extra networking, storage or accelerator cards.
