PowerEdge R630 1U dual-Xeon server

The Dell PowerEdge R630 is a 1U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2637 v3 quad-core processors running at 3.5 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots and includes a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. Two 1 TB 7.2K 2.5-inch enterprise SATA drives and dual 750 W redundant power supplies complete the baseline configuration.

Dense compute for virtualization and databases

This system suits organisations that need high single-thread performance in a compact form factor, such as virtualisation hosts, database nodes or application servers that benefit from the 3.5 GHz clock speed. Buyers who require large local storage capacity should look elsewhere, as the eight-bay 2.5-inch chassis limits raw capacity compared with larger drive bays. Workloads that demand GPU acceleration or more than two processor sockets are also outside the design envelope.

Sustained load with redundant power and cooling

Under continuous load the dual 750 W hot-swap power supplies share the load and maintain operation if one unit fails, while the 1U chassis directs airflow across the processors and memory. The H330 controller manages RAID parity calculations without a dedicated cache, so write-heavy sustained workloads will see throughput limited by the controller architecture rather than the drive media. The iDRAC8 remote management module provides out-of-band monitoring and power control during extended run periods.
