The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server system fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors running at 3.2 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots and a Dell PERC H730P 2 GB storage controller. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs and dual 750 W redundant power supplies are included.

This configuration targets organisations that need high core density and large memory capacity in a single rack unit. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with only two SSDs, leaving six bays empty for expansion. Buyers who need more than eight front-accessible drives or who require a taller chassis for additional PCIe cards should consider a different form factor.

Eight 2.5-inch bays with two SATA SSDs installed

The chassis provides eight hot-swap 2.5-inch bays using a SATA backplane, and two Dell enterprise 800 GB SATA 6 Gb/s SSDs are already fitted. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Any further storage must use the remaining six bays or the internal M.2 slot not detailed here.
