Compact 1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs fits two Intel Xeon Gold 6338 processors into a single rack unit. Each CPU provides 32 cores at 2.0 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz registered ECC memory across four DIMM slots. Eight 960 GB SATA SSDs are pre-installed behind a PERC H745 RAID controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 1400 W platinum power supplies and a quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card complete the package.

Tool-less rails and front-access service

ReadyRails snap into standard square-hole or round-hole racks without tools. All drives, power supplies and the front bezel are hot-swappable from the front, so failed components can be replaced without pulling the server. The PERC H745 controller uses a 4 GB NV cache with a battery backup; verify the battery status on first boot because a depleted cell will disable write-back caching. iDRAC9 Enterprise is licensed and active out of the box, allowing remote power cycling and firmware updates before the operating system loads.

Verify rack depth power and cooling

Confirm the rack enclosure is deep enough for a 1U chassis with front cabling and rear exhaust clearance. Ensure the PDU can deliver two independent 1400 W feeds on the correct connector type. Check that the DDR4 3200 MHz registered ECC modules match any future expansion plans up to the 1 TB maximum. The OCP 3.0 mezzanine card occupies the dedicated slot, so additional network adapters must use the rear PCIe riser if available. Buyers who need NVMe boot drives or GPU acceleration should select a different chassis.
