Dual 14-core Xeon server for virtualised workloads

The PowerEdge R730 fits two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v4 processors running at 2.0 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo, delivering 28 cores in a 2U rack form factor. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory are installed across four slots, leaving twenty empty DIMM positions for expansion up to 1.5 TB. The platform targets midsize and large enterprises running databases, VDI, data-warehouse or HPC data-node tasks.

Sustained throughput from flash-backed RAID

Eight 400 GB SATA SSDs connect through a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and battery backup, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for continuous write performance. Redundant hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies maintain operation during a module failure or scheduled replacement. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for balanced network I/O under load.

Tool-less rails and remote management simplify

Ready Rails enable tool-less mounting in standard four-post racks, while the front bezel secures the eight 2.5-inch drive bays. iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives out-of-band console access, power control and hardware monitoring over a dedicated network link. The C610 chipset and LGA 2011-3 sockets limit future CPU upgrades to the current two-socket maximum.
