Dual 14-core Xeon server for virtualisation

The PowerEdge R730 fits into a 2U rack space and ships with two Xeon E5-2660 v4 processors running at 2.0 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo. Fourteen cores per socket give 28 threads total, aimed at databases, VDI and HPC data nodes. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory occupy four of the 24 available slots, leaving room to grow to 1.5 TB.

PERC H730 controller and quad-port networking

A PERC H730 1 GB cache controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through for the two installed 400 GB SATA SSDs. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports on a single PCIe slot. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables remote power, console and firmware management without an operating system.

Hot-swap power and tool-less rails

Two 750 W platinum hot-swap supplies share the load and allow replacement without downtime. The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drives in front-accessible bays. ReadyRails mount in square or round holes without tools, and the front bezel clips on for a clean rack appearance.
