Dual 14-core Xeon 2U server

This new Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack system with two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors running at 2.4 GHz with a 3.3 GHz turbo. Fourteen cores per chip and 128 GB of DDR4 ECC memory give it 28 threads for virtualization, database or high-performance computing nodes. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 8 Enterprise remote management are included.

Fits virtualization and database nodes

The eight 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with two 800 GB SATA SSDs on a PERC H730 RAID controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. A quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections. Buyers who need more than two sockets, GPU compute trays or additional drive bays should evaluate larger platforms.

PERC H730 with 1 GB cache

The storage controller is a Dell PERC H730 with 1 GB battery-backed cache and 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA bandwidth. It manages the installed SSDs and any future drives in the eight-bay chassis. Confirm that your workload fits the controller's RAID levels and the SATA interface before ordering.
