The PowerEdge R730 fits 2U of rack space and ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 processors running at 2.1GHz, each delivering 16 cores. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 registered ECC memory occupy four of the twenty-four available slots, leaving room to grow toward the 1.5TB maximum. The platform targets midsize and large enterprises running databases, VDI or high-performance computing nodes.

Hot-swap power and quad-port networking

Two 750 watt platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap capability so a single unit can be replaced without downtime. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1GbE and two 10Gb SFP+ ports on a single low-profile bracket, simplifying cabling in dense racks. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays connect to the PERC H730 controller through a 12Gb/s SAS backplane, and ready rails with a front bezel are included for immediate mounting.

Battery-backed RAID and remote management reduce

The H730 controller carries 1GB of cache protected by a battery, enabling RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Two 300GB 10K SAS drives are pre-installed, giving a starting point for operating system or scratch volumes. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides out-of-band remote console, power control and hardware monitoring over a dedicated network interface, allowing administrators to manage the server without physical access.
