The PowerEdge R730xd fits twelve 3.5-inch drives in a 2U rack chassis, giving midsize and large enterprises a compact platform for data warehouses, VDI, databases and HPC data nodes. Dual Xeon E5-2660 v4 processors deliver twenty-eight total cores at 2.0 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo, while 512 GB of DDR4-2400 registered ECC memory across sixteen modules supports heavy virtualization and in-memory tasks.

Enterprise drive bays and redundant power

Twelve hot-swap SATA bays connect to a PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache and battery backup, enabling RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through for flexible volume layouts. A quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links, and iDRAC 8 Enterprise gives full out-of-band management. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and ready rails with a front bezel complete the service-ready package.

Thermals and power in normal use

Redundant hot-swap power supplies share the load, keeping each unit in its high-efficiency range while the 2U airflow path cools twenty-eight cores and twelve spinning drives. Fan speeds ramp with CPU and drive temperatures, so acoustic output rises under sustained database or HPC loads but stays manageable for typical rack rows. The platinum-rated 750 W units provide headroom for full populations without exceeding the chassis thermal design.
