The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprise workloads such as data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases and high-performance computing data nodes. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v3 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 10 cores and a 3.3 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 768 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots. A Dell PERC H730 1 GB controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes.

12× 3.5" SAS/SATA drive trays and networking

Before ordering, verify that your rack can accommodate a 2U chassis and that you have 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives ready, because the 12 front trays ship empty. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, so confirm your switch or uplink supports SFP+ transceivers for the 10 Gb links. The motherboard uses LGA 2011-3 sockets and the Intel C610 chipset, with a maximum memory capacity of 1.5 TB across 24 DIMM slots. iDRAC 8 Enterprise is included for remote management.

Dual 750 W platinum power supplies

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundant power for the dual-processor configuration, 768 GB memory population and full drive tray complement. The redundant design allows a supply to be replaced without shutting down the server. Platinum efficiency reduces waste heat, which helps keep internal temperatures lower under typical enterprise loads. Fan speeds are managed by the system firmware and will scale with CPU utilisation and inlet temperature. Power draw will vary with workload, drive count and memory configuration.
